You will need:
- sewing machine
- tailor soap
- tailor centimeter
We start from folding IRONED fabric into 4. Thus, after cutting and unfolding your fabric you will get the circle (hence its name). It is important because thanks for circle shape, your skirt will have no seams nor zippers. Measure your waist circumference. Divide result into 4.
Put the beginning of your centimeter to the corner of your fabric. It will be the middle of our circle.
Using the centimeter and soap draw a quarter of a circle on a fabric.
Example: if your waist circumference is 60 cm, after dividing into 4 it gives 15 cm. After putting the centimeter on the fabric you should draw a circle with a radius equal to 15 cm.
Example: in former step we obtained the result of 15 cm. If we want our skirt to be 50 cm long, we should draw a quarter of circle with a radius of 65 cm now.
Cut the fabric along the drawn lines. You should get this shape: I did two laps in my skirt. For this purpose I pined fastened the fabric like this: While doing lapses it is important to remember to make them on exactly two opposite sides, otherwise they will be looking bad.
Now we will be making the belt.
Cut the stripe of a width twice as big as your elastic is plus about 4 cm. The length of a strp sould be long enough for you to put the skirt on later on. Cut the fabric along the line. Now you should have already two pieces of the skirt.
sewing the skirt
In the next step we pin down the belt with a skirt. My fabric had the right side equal to left side so please be careful to pin together the right sides! Sew the ends of the belt together and cut off the unnecessary excess of the fabric. Then you should sew the belt to the skirt. Use the straight stitch. Furthermore, sew the fabrics using the zigzag stitch. It will prevent the fabric from fraying. In order to put the elastic inside out belt, fold the strip on a half and pin down the loose end to the place, where we sewed the belt to the skirt.
After sewind it, the seam should be in the same place as the zigzag stitch that we did in former step. Sewing the belt please remember to leave small part of it unsewed. We will need this to put inside the elastic. Now we will be handling with the elastic 🙂 It should be of a length of you waist plus about 3 cm for sewing. Put the elastic inside the belt. Use a pin or another small tool so it will be much easier! 🙂 Now two end of the elastic should extend from the hole that we left while sewing. Sew the ends of the elastic together. Remember to check before sewing if the elastic is twisted! The next step is to sew the hole that we left in a belt.
The last thing we should do is to line the fabric in the bottom of our skirt. You can fold the material twice and sew using the straight stitch.
